A paper from the Journal of Hospital Infection has analysed 22 studies relating to human coronaviruses such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) coronavirus. The report notes that certain chemicals are more effective in cleaning disinfectants to help inactivate and contain coronaviruses. These include surface disinfection procedures with:
 
62–71% ethanol, or
0.5% hydrogen peroxide , or
0.1% sodium hypochlorite
